What is split system air conditioning?

The most popular air conditioning chose for Gold Coast residents, split system air conditioning units are “split” with one unit located inside, and the the other outside. These systems are relatively easy to install (no ductwork is required in the roof) and both quiet and energy efficient.

What is ducted air conditioning?

A ducted reverse cycle air conditioning system is made up of two components – the indoor system is usually installed in the ceiling or under the floor with the outdoor condensing unit located externally. Ducting is used to allow the chilled or heated air to be distributed throughout your home via the use of vents which are situated either in your ceilings, walls or floors.

Which one should I choose?

There are a few important questions to ask before choosing split system vs ducted air conditioning. Split system air conditioning are generally cheaper to install, can be set up on a room by room basis which can therefore lead to cheaper running costs. However zoning ducted air conditioning (turning it on and off in individual rooms) can help with efficiency in a ducted installation.

Split system air conditioning is great for smaller spaces and single rooms where as ducted is better if you want to be able to temperature control your entire house.

Roof space is also important to consider when deciding on air conditioning for your home.
